After almost 80 years Radio Australia on shortwave goes quiet. This is a recording of the final few minutes of broadcast at the Shepparton transmitter site as engineers turn off each transmitter one by one as the "Waltzing Matilda" interval signal plays out.

Rob Wager (VK3BVW) blogs his live recording of Radio Australia's last two minutes on shortwave radio from Mount Evelyn, Australia.

The deed is done. The switch has been flicked off. The plug has been pulled. Radio Australia ended its shortwave broadcasts at 0100 UTC on January 31, 2107. After many decades of service, it ended very little fanfare.....just the "Waltzing Matilda" interval signal for one last time.
